Overview, features and application details

SongHub is a free offline karaoke app for Android phones, tablets and Android TV. It plays your own MIDI and KAR song files with synced lyrics through soundfonts — no streaming, no subscription. It is not on the Play Store; the developer releases it on GitHub.

SongHub is a free karaoke app for Android that works completely offline. Instead of streaming songs from a server, it plays karaoke files you keep on your own device — MIDI (.mid) and KAR (.kar) files with synced on-screen lyrics — and renders the music through soundfont (.sf2) instrument banks. It runs on Android phones, tablets and Android/Google TV.

How SongHub works

You create a folder called SongHub on your device storage (or an SD card or USB drive), drop your song files into it, and the app builds your song library from those files, complete with song numbers like a real karaoke machine. Pick a song and the lyrics highlight in time with the music. Because MIDI files hold note data rather than recorded audio, a library of thousands of songs takes up very little space. The only time you need the internet is to download the app itself and any sample packs, soundfonts or background videos you want.

Where SongHub comes from

SongHub is built by an independent developer, jpdcs, and it is not on the Google Play Store. The official home of the project is the SongHub-Android releases page on GitHub, which is where new versions are published. That matters for safety: repackaged copies on random APK sites can be outdated, bundled with junk, or worse. If a site other than the official GitHub project offers you a "SongHub" file, treat it with suspicion.

What it costs

Nothing. SongHub is free for personal use, with no subscriptions and no locked features. Anyone charging you for the app itself is reselling something the developer gives away.

Getting your library going

You supply the songs. The developer provides sample packs to test your setup, and the community around the app shares much larger libraries. A good soundfont makes a real difference to how the backing music sounds, so it is worth trying two or three.

Our SongHub karaoke app guide covers setup, folders and soundfonts in detail.
